Frequently asked questions
How is a psychiatric evaluation different from therapy?
An evaluation is a medical assessment by a prescriber that looks at your symptoms and history and recommends treatment, which may include medication. Therapy means ongoing sessions with a counselor to build skills and work through challenges. Many people use both.
What should I bring?
Bring your insurance card, a state-issued photo ID, and a list of your current medications and doses if you have one.
Will I be prescribed medication?
Not necessarily. The evaluation helps you and your prescriber decide whether medication is a good fit, and any medication is started only after a discussion of benefits and risks.
Can children and teens be evaluated?
Yes. We serve children as young as 7, adolescents, and adults. Call 770-683-6946 so we can match your child with the right provider.
